The Dark Matter Nanos – A is for Astoros

If I was a little more savvy, I would have had this ready for Halloween, but as with so many things in my life, I’m a couple weeks late and several dollars short.

For those that might be unfamiliar with the idea behind this macabre image, it’s an alien-twist on Edward Gorey’s The Gashlycrumb Tinies, a unique alphabet that presents the ghastly, twisted ends for 26 English children. So this is the first letter in what will hopefully turn out to be a 26+ alphabet for Supernova Lullaby. We are dealing with an alien language here, anyway.

But, I also thought this might give you, my dear readers, a chance to contribute to the webcomic, and so if you have some spare time on your hands, and a Gorey-esque idea that matches up with a letter of the alphabet (or, hell, create your own letter!), send your drawing my way. I’ll post it to the comic along with any website links that you’d like to include. And for your contribution, I’ll send you a character sketch from the galaxy of Supernova Lullaby.

Artwork can be sent to me at this address: msgierillustration (at) gmail.com. Thanks as always true believers!

The Dark Matter Nanos – S is for Seamus

Yet another entry into our alien alphabet series, inspired by Edward Gorey’s The¬†Gashlycrumb Tinies. I’m still thinking of an appropriate title for the alien version. I imagine it will hit any day now…

And now for a slight aside…

As you may have noted (or haven’t noted, which may be even more dispiriting…), this is my first post for 2011. I don’t want to say that I’m on a hiatus, or that I’ve hit a wall, or that I’m quitting. Because I’m not. Or maybe I am, and I’m just in denial about it.

But I am at one of those proverbial ‘forks in the road,’ and so I’m trying to decide which direction to go with this webcomic. I’ve enjoyed doing it, and I feel that I’ve grown quite a bit as an artist by undertaking it, but at the same time, it has taken away a lot of time from other projects that I need to attend to, some of which pre-date Supernova. Also, I’m starting to think that my style of storytelling is not suited to the form of a regular webcomic. I’ve definitely learned to respect those who have taken on the rigorous nature of the format, with it’s need for a consistent and regular output. However, I’m just not sure if it’s the right place for me.

The Dark Matter Nanos – X is for Xonia

The latest addition to my Edward Gorey tribute, which now has a name, finally. The Dark Matter Nanos. What do you think?
